Kindness is not a business. True kindness expects nothing in return and should never act with conditions.
"I don't craft for money. I craft to help keep others alive." - Garret Hjorth
rule 001. Characters are not you
This is a big rule for me so I have it first. You are not your character. Your character is not you. Character personalities will not mesh sometimes. Scenes will play out how they will based on the characters.
rule 002. Lore Is Not The End
I work within lore and roleplay to match lore to the best of my ability, but, lore is not the end all be all. I enjoy creativity with said lore. So if it can't be bent in the slightest, then I will kindly say no.
rule 003. 21+ IC and OOC
I adhere to this very strongly. Children is a big no go for me in roleplay as I am looking for roleplay that will put characters in danger.Do not lie about it OOCly and lying about it to Garret ICly will cause many problems.
rule 004. Communication!
I lean into this heavily, OOC communication is needed. Tell in game, Discord or some other way. If you can't communicate with me outside of roleplay, then it will be tough to keep me around. It takes two to roleplay!
rule 005. You get what you put in.
I am someone who enjoys effort for roleplay. If you put in the work to want to build a connection with my character, I will give it back. Be it including your character in my story if you include me in yours.Put forth nothing, you get nothing!
rule 006. Please pull me from the QuicksandsAs much as I enjoy the gathering place, it really gets dull as a place, the same round room and the same groups of people. rule 007. The new workaround
You don't need to be able to show me your character in order to roleplay with me. And if it is the only way that you can roleplay, by needing to show me your character then I have no interest. Same with if the character looks vastly different from what I see before anything.

Where did he come from... Garret is a farm boy who was raised in a family farm within the Shroud. He learned all there is about chocobo ranching and smithing for the chocobos. From what is the best feed all the way to the best spots to scratch them. Even to what kind of barding suits them the best. But it was all work, nothing really letting him be him. When he was eighteen had traveled to Ul'Dah to look for work outside of the farm and to not be part of the family ranch for the rest of his life, he decided to join the Paladins in order to build the very little skills with an kind of weapon he had. Along side this, he kept up with the smithing he knew, refining it along side the swordsmanship he took on. The Paladins gave him something that he thought would allow him to help others only to find out that within their order and he found out there was nothing but corruption. This was Ul'Dah after all..
He then left at twenty-one to join the Gladiators. And only a short ways in he was talked into fighting in the Colosseum, not knowing what it really was until he was thrown in and had to fight his way out.
Finally he struck out after his short time with the Gladiators to dip his toes in adventuring. He did odd jobs, barely knowing where he was going. And for three years he was doing well and working well. Getting better with his blade and still keeping up with his crafting as he wanted a way to keep his gear in good repair. But one large job, to take on the Queen of Coeurls, with a crew he had joined took a turn for the worst, and it left him severely injured to the point of retiring from adventuring entirely and focusing on his smithing. Where is he now... Garret lives in an apartment in the Goblet and works within Ul'Dah as a smith and a crafter. He seeks to help a lot of new adventures from suffering the same fate he has, so he always tries to give them the best gear her can at good prices while also keeping an eye out for the signs of what has happened to him in life.Slowly he was reeled back into adventuring by friends he had made along the way, even go far as to getting the injury that had took him out of adventuring worked on to the point where he could adventure once again. But there was something still haunting him, why was he picked to fight in the Blood Sands, who wanted him in there?

Simple Hook:Craftsman:Garret is a local craftsman in Ul'Dah and does work for all kinds of people. From rich to poor, young to old. Even new adventurers to hardened veterans. Feel free to come up and ask him about his work and if your character would like something made for them as they may have heard of him if they have been in Ul'Dah a bit!Former Paladin:Garret was a Paladin for a short while, looking to help people by joining the order. He then left for personal reasons. You may have run into him from his time there or know of him as he spoke out a lot against the shady ways the Paladins worked. It was Ul'Dah after all.Previous Adventures:Before Garret retired from adventuring only to be pulled back into the profession years later, Garret had been working odd jobs across the star. From the three main cities to Ishgard to all the way over seas to Othard and Hingashi. Maybe you ran into him along the way, maybe you were someone he stopped.
Story HookBehind the Curtain:When Garret was younger and just joining the Gladiator Guild, he was tricked by someone he thought a friend into fighting in the Colosseum. What he didn't know is this was a fight he would scrape himself out of and learn why it was call The Blood Sands. The main thing that still makes him wonder to this day is why? Why was he put in, who wanted him there? How in the hells did he make it out?Maybe you saw him in the Sands. Maybe you heard whispers of the man who made it out, while part of the Gladiators Guild. Maybe you are a noble who knows something.(This is something I would like to have a tell on to approach if you are interested in working into this hook.)

All he knows is he was Ala Mhigan.Lead Progress:With a bit of brainstorming, his friend Briar and him look to try and see what they can dig up on tracking down Hervard. Briar suggested to get a more concrete lead by searching in Ul'Dah for anyone with a connection to Garret's previous mentor.
Lead 3:When Garret was in the Blood Sands, he fought and killed a man named Kamana, a man who was sponsored by an older man named Takakane. Garret was looking for any information on who the man he killed was, asking around and a few people he knew. He didn't know anything about either of them.Lead Progress:In his asking, Garret was brought a good bit of information, by someone he knew named Xochitl Canek, on both of the men as they fought in a place called the Iron Arena. He was given two dossiers, one on each of them, detailing who they were, what they did among other information.
